SUPINFO Participates in the “Docteur Souris” Community

Docteur Souris (“Doctor Mouse”) allows hospitalized children the use of a laptop computer with access to the Internet via WiFi.
More than 20 SUPINFO students ensure that the system is functioning correctly in the various hospital centres.
Other students participate in designing the Network and in choosing the technologies and organisational modes.

What Is Docteur Souris?
Docteur Souris is a charitable organization whose aim is to provide computer tools and Internet access to children and adolescents inside hospitals or medical centres in order to permit them to communicate, study and play at a distance. Guarantor of the project Doctor Souris, this association is working towards extending its presence to other hospitals as well as to collecting funds and developing its range of partners.

Doctor Souris is a high-tech solution allowing hospitalized children the possibility of using free laptop computers with monitored access to e-mail and the Internet. Thanks to this equipment, run by a teaching staff, the hospitalized children can correspond by mall with their parents, their close relations and their friends. They can also communicate with other children admitted to the same hospital. To date, 7 services of the Hospital Armand Trousseau in Paris have been equipped with the system, and 20 other services are under installation in the Necker and Debré Hospitals.

Doctor Souris is also an set of creative educational software to break the boredom and isolation of the hospitalized children. Theycan thus learn how to use a computer, to surf the Internet, or begin learning about digital photography. They can also listen to music and view films and cartoons, or follow their school classes from a distance and peruse hundreds of documents thanks to the electronic encyclopaedias included for free on each laptop computer.

The other Partners of Docteur Souris.

Thanks to the mobilization of companies, institutions and private individuals, the project Doctor Souris was able to be quickly launched for the first time in a Parisian paediatric hospital, the hospital Armand-Trousseau. Indeed, the Docteur Souris Association was able to develop an innovative software solution to equip the hospital with a secure wireless network, to collect and recycle used laptops from various companies, and to set up several months of computer and high-tech training for the 7 teaching staff who would be monitoring the program within the hospital.

Why we are partners of Docteur Souris?

A project like Doctor Souris deserves a total commitment by the administration of SUPINFO as well as its students. The aim of the project is, of course, enthralling, but the nature of the project (the deployment of solutions based on laptops and wireless networks) corresponds to our know-how (our students all are certified by Microsoft, Cisco etc), as well as to our experience (all our establishments have had WiFi since 2002) and to our teaching methods (our students are immersed in the real world by obligatory training courses each year and partnerships in companies).

What we bring to the Association

We participate in the Doctor Souris community: more than 20 students have been mobilized to make sure Doctor Souris runs smoothly within the hospital complexes.
They are in direct contact with all of the users (large or small) for all questions of a technical nature or related to the use of Doctor Souris.

Other students collaborate in the design of the network and in choosing the technologies and organisational modes, and we certainly hope to take part in the developments of forthcoming versions!
