This article is dedicated to creating web application and site
collection from the SharePoint
Administration Center. We will also see how to manage pages, change the
display as well as the access permissions
to the site.
First, you must know that when you deploy a new web application, it is configured in the IIS
(Internet Information Services) Windows Server. This means that each of
the applications will have their own site in the IIS. So you can configure
them separately later to add SSL certificates for example.
Each web application can integrate some "Site

site collection http:// compagnie/sites/ Presentation then we can have the

Creating a web application
We will deploy a web application called "Compagnie".
To do this, go to the administration center and then to "Application

In the step:
Name : Enter the name chosen for the web application.
Port : Enter the port to use for the app.
Allow Anonymous : This selection leaves unauthenticated users
access to the site or not.
Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) : Allows you to choose to pass
the site in HTTPS.
URL : Enter The URL of your WEB application (It should be
generated automatically based on previously added information Select
"Default Sign in Page" to use the default login system.
Select "Create new application pool" and enter its name.

web application "Compagnie" in the IIS server.

Creating a site collection
We will proceed to the creation of a first site collection. Click on
"Create site collections"
In title we will put "Accueil". You can then add a description.
Finally, you have the choice between different templates.
Enter the name of the user who is responsible for administering the site collection. Then you can
select a quota.
Enter your access credentials to the site.

Adding pages to the previously created site collection
To add a page to your site collection, simply go to the cogwheel
and click on "Add a page":
Enter the name of your page, in our case it will be "Presentation"
then click on "Create".
You are redirected to the new page in edit mode.
Add the elements of this new page then click on "SAVE"

As you can see, the page just created in the site collection is
low level (http://compagnie.com/SitePages/Presentation.aspx):
If you want to change the display style of the page, you can do it
by going to the gear and then clicking on "Change the look"
Microsoft provides a ready-to-use style list:
We will install the "City" style
It is possible to change the color, the writing style.
Then just select "Try it out" to preview the rendering. It can
then be validated by selecting "Yes, Keep it" or canceled by clicking on
"No, not quite there".
The management of the page
If you want to change the settings of the page, just go to the
gear and click on "Site settings"
You will have on this page the ability to manage many permissions,
display settings and actions.
Access permissions to the sites
To add permissions to a user or a
group of users of the active directory, simply go to "Site Settings"
then click on "People and groups" You can then choose between the
category "members, visitors , owners or any other categories created by
you. Then, you just need to click on "New Add Users"
Enter the name of the user or group to invite, then click on

To change the permissions of a group, select a group and click on
"Edit User Permissions".
Just select an item in the list of permissions and validate the
