After the great success of the critics, and at the commercial level. Epic Games now has a significant budget and intends to establish itself as a leader in the video game market... and not only when we know that today the Unreal Engine 4 is used in universities for video game courses, but also architecture, simulation and others.

The engine does not change in depth, it is rather a wide range of improvements. New games are emerging, such as Killing floor

Unreal Engine is essential

It is with a multiplayer FPS developed by the American army, as propaganda for the recruitment of new troops, that the America's Army game, released in 2002, presents the second version of the engine. Version 2 of the engine has been completely rewritten and brings new features, such as the ability to make kinematics, and the addition of plug-ins to integrate 3D rendering work from 3D Studio Max software in particular, and also physical engines. Will also be improved: the physics of "ragdol" (physical animation bug), rendering, vehicle physics, and particle quality.

The Unreal Engine 3 was designed for Windows platforms, and the new generations of consoles of the time, Playstation 3, Xbox 360. Later, with the association with Mozilla, they integrate the engine into HTML5, and then Javascript. The improvements of the Unreal Engine 3 are significant and are as follows: New physics to avoid ragdols, destructible environments, and the ability to display a large number of non-player characters on the screen to simulate a crowd as well as 64-bit support for the new Unreal Tournament game, and support for version 11 of directx that worked with Nvidia for this.

Later, in 2011, the engine is even used to develop games for Nintendo 3DS by Ubisoft.

A major new feature

Basically, the engine was open to modders; however, only engine licensees who could create and sell games under Unreal Engine 3. That's why Epic Games publishes an SDK called "Unreal Devlopement Kit", which is available and usable by everyone.

Conclusion

More and more, Epic Games is determined to push the graphics towards maximum realism and optimal optimization. We will see in the following, the latest version of the engine that finally interests us the most: the Unreal Engine 4. We will see what's new, how it works and how to use it yourself.
